Hello, and welcome to my blog! I'm Jesse and I'm onthecyberseas on Tumblr (as well as everywhere else). I'm still learning how to use the site, but I hope to post a lot of my original posts on here as well as on Tumblr. Since this is a new blog as well as an extension of my Tumblr, I will be posting some of my more popular/favorite original Tumblr posts here. I have a lot of fandoms and ships (the list is constantly growing), but my all-time favorites are Faberry and Red Beauty. Feel free to message me if you want to talk, I'd love to hear from you.

Here is my monthly post where I highlight some of the fics I’ve enjoyed over the past month. The rules to make it on this list are as follows:

1. Can be either a one-shot or multichapter fic.
2. Must be complete, though I sometimes highlight WIPs in a separate post.
3. I must have read, finished reading or reread the fic in the month. There is no limit to when the fic was posted or completed.
4. Fics can be from any fandom.

If your fic is on this list and you want me to tag your Tumblr url in the post, let me know and I’ll be happy to edit the post to add it. Without further ado, here are this month’s fic recs:

One of my highlights of each year is attending TGIFemslash in California. The con has been described as a family reunion and I definitely believe that’s accurate. I look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones as we celebrate femslash ships new and old. This year was no different, and I enjoyed the weekend so much. Throughout all of the low points and all of the high points, my TGI family has been there for me. I would have never gotten where I am now without their support and I’m incredibly thankful. When I arrived at the hotel on Thursday, it was like I had never left. It was another great weekend of memories, inside jokes, and meaningful conversations about fandom. None of this would have been possible without the staff who have made the con as amazing as it is. No matter where the con is, I know it will be a great experience and I’m already anticipating next year and the years to come.

In addition to my Monthly Fic Rec Post, I have decided to make a separate post highlighting some of the In-Progress fics that I’m looking forward to seeing updates for. The rules to make it on this list are as follows:

1. Must be a work in progress fic.

2. The last update must have been posted within the past year.

3. I must have read the last posted chapter in the month.

4. Fics can be from any fandom.

5. Once a fic appears on this list, it can’t appear again (the fic can still be included in the regular fic recs list once it is completed).

If your fic is on this list and you want me to tag your Tumblr url in the post, let me know and I’ll be happy to edit the post to add it. Without further ado, here are this month’s WIP recs:

1. Gotham by kmcgay

Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1. First, I have to recommend my longest Red Beauty fic, Unbreakable Bond, that I finally completed in 2018. I enjoyed writing it and I am super proud of how it turned out.

2.

I created this video for last years Club Femslash at TGIFemslash. It was awesome to include my favorite as well as some of the other popular femslash vids, and I'm hard at work on this year's vid.

3.

I made this quick Red Beauty edit to iron on to a new shirt (as my old one was fading). I was thrilled at how well it turned out and I'm glad I got to wear the shirt when I met Emilie De Ravin in October.

Day 6

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1. Anything Red Beauty (Ruby/Belle from Once Upon A Time, particularly fluff and/or smut fanart. Though I love many ships, these two have had my heart for the last couple of years.

2. Anything inspired by any of my fanfics.

3. I'm always open to making more fandom friends, but I'm very shy.

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1. I talked a lot about TGIFemslash in my Day 1 entry, but I'm mentioned it again because it's such a great community.

2. The Star Wars Writing Alliance is mostly on Discord, but the link is to the Tumblr page. They host a weekly write-in every Sunday and people can participate regardless of what they're writing. I don't get to hang out with them as much as I'd like to, but I'm glad when I get the chance.

3. I like participating in the Captain America Reverse Bang each year (which is now moving to Dreamwidth). Though the challenge is predominantly Stucky, there's a lot of different ships and characters in the challenge and the art is always amazing. I'm always lucky to get one of my top choices of art, most likely due to my preference of SamSteve over Stucky (though I did write SamSteveBucky one year).

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

While Glee had many low moments, this scene (not the episode) has always been an important one to me. This was not only a great moment in canon for Quinn and for Faberry, but it was also a great moment for my personal growth. While my circumstances were far different than Quinn's, I also struggled in high school with a lot of self-loathing. While this scene is also integral to my OTP, seeing Quinn able to start her path forward and be able to leave the struggles of high school behind helped me do my best to leave my own struggles behind. "You can't change your past, but you can let go and start your future" has been my go-to quote for the past couple of years, and is posted to the corkboard in my room for inspiration.

Day 2

Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

While there are so many great fics I've read over the years, there are couple that I keep coming back to. I could have very easily created separate lists for each of these ships/fandoms, I decided to pick one story from three fandoms for the list.

Without further ado, here is my (incomplete) list of fic recs:

1. Calamity Jane Meets Dr. Isles, Medicine Woman by JoBethMegAmy
Pairing: Rizzles

2. Simple Parts by FlyingFleshEater

Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I think my Happy Place might be an actual place, a convention specifically. Each year I attend TGIFemslash (or TGIF/F) in California for a weekend in February. I originally met the organizers when I went to my first FaberryCon after graduating college. Though it wasn't my first fan convention, it was the first time I made lasting friendships in fandom (and it also gave me the courage to reach out to other people online in fandom and befriend them). After a couple of FaberryCons, the organizers transitioned to a multi-fandom femslash convention. There have been three conventions so far, and I enjoyed every one of them. I've made so many friends and memories over the year, that each convention is basically a big family reunion at this point (though I'm excited to meet new people every year). There are so many things I love about the con, from panels to Club Femslash to Fic Battle to the auction to just talking to people in the con suite/party rooms. The convention is well worth the trip, and I can't wait to see everyone in February again!
